This is the first song that I have written in well over a year. I really haven't thought much about it, until it came on me strong and hard today! I was in the shower, started singing the first line, and I thought... "Hmmm... That sounds like a song..." And thus was born, One Day. Recorded using GarageBand 3 and the built-in mic on my iMac G5, ended up being not to bad. Have a listen...

One Day
OR... try the MP3 File!

What if one day
the world would pay attention to me
What if one day
I could feel like I am all I could be
No fear of being out or being in
I could just be me and that'd be it
   One day...

What if one day
all my life just fell into place
What if one day
I didn't have to fall on my face
And everything I tried to do I did
No more painful failures to admit
   One day...

I could sit here waiting for
the world that I can dream up
And wish for things that seem
like they could help me keep my chin up
But I know, it's just a fantasy
I know... I know...

(Instrumental Chorus)
(Repeat Pre-Chorus)

One day
May never come to be reality
One day
Is just a far off fantasy
One day
Is an endless string of maybes
But one day... one day...

One day
May never come to be reality
One day
Is just a far off fantasy
One day
Is an endless string of maybes
But one day... this day...

One day... this day...
One day... this day...
Is one day.

A brand new song (only days old at this point!) that came from searching for the perfect song for a worship service whose theme was compassion - showing people the love God has shown us. I began singing the chorus of the song, and now, we are singing that song for this weekend's service at Crosswinds! :-) Have a listen...

Your Love Living
OR... try the MP3 File!

chorus
Let your love flow through me now
So everyone will see
How their Father loves them
And may my life forever be
A reflection of your love living in me

I once was lost, but now I'm found
Those words, they echo through my brain
Cause I know the sum, the full amount
Of what my life was when you came

Oh, I know... I'm not alone
There are so many like me
Broken and empty, their pain unknown
Let them know your love in me

Living... and breathing
A warm touch from You
Broken... and needing
The Friend I've found in You
Let your love flow through

This is a song we have been using in worship settings a lot... can't wait to record it with the full band! Just catches our hearts desire to know and give more to Jesus! There is a picture I love in this song... "What could ever hold your deepness... yet YOU run to meet ME"! An amazing picture of God's love from the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15. That son is of course us, and God is the amazingly loving Dad who is thrilled to see his rebel son returning home. The bridge of the song is taken straight from Eph ch 3... Paul's prayer that all of us could know the unfathomable depths of God's amazing love for us. Listen and be amazed at the incredible gift God has given us of making it possible to live life with life's creator!
Note: this song is available in both the RealAudio® and MP3 formats!

Even More
OR... try the MP3 File!

Can I know You even more
Can I know You even more
I just want to know you
my heart is longing deeply to
Know You even more

Can I love You even more...

Can it be that I could know
The One who made reality
Oh, can it be that I could know
The One who crafted me
What could ever hold Your deepness
Yet you run
To meet me

Can I trust You even more...

And I pray that we would all together know His power
So that we might grasp how wide and long,
how high and deep is His love
This love that's greater than anything that we could ever know
And I pray we would be filled with all the fullness of God

Unified came about at the request of a friend... he was putting together the Victor (NY) Unity Fest (the third annual) and asked if I could write a song that fit that theme. Generally, I don't do that... the songs I write just come, not upon request. BUT, this one did! I sat down one day in like 98 degree heat and this song just flowed out onto paper. Very cool reminder of the thing I think Jesus wanted from us the most. Unity, love, bearing with one another... etc. This version was recorded live at the Unity Fest 2002 in Victor, NY on Jan 20th, 2002. Engineered by Ted Shawe. Mastered for release on our Pre-Order CD for Come As You Are by Jesse Sprinkle, Mammoth Studios.

Unified (© 2001)
Written for the Victor Unity Fest 2002 Unified
We are the Body of Christ
Unified
Hand in hand, side by side
We'll take this world for Jesus
Even giving our lives
We are unified

"So, what are you?" we ask all the time
Simply "A Christian," just won't suffice
Too many labels dividing our side
Begging the question -
Are we unified?

Brother and sister, look the other way
"It's not my problem, it's his," we say
But we're a family, united in Christ
So grab the hand of your brother
Let's be unified

Let this world see the beauty of Him
So many diverse, all unified
Ev'ry tongue, ev'ry tribe, ev'ry nation...

Recently, I have been writing a lot of worship songs, and the strangest part about it is that God "told" me that I was going to. I just had a strong desire to, which I never do (have a strong desire for any specific kind of writing) and then they just started coming. This one is pretty simply the only thing we can give back to God. He gives us everything... and that's all He wants from us. Life lived for him to say I Love You.

Only My Life Will Do (© 2001)
How can I tell You
how much You mean to me?
No words will do
still I keep tryin' to
Say just the right thing
in only a word or two
No pen can capture You
or say the things I want to
So I simply say, I love You

So great, Your love
And generosity
To me, a sinner condemned
now I am set free
Nothing I'll ever do
but grace alone gives me
This life, undescribable
no words from my mouth will do
So I simply say, I love You

I doesn't seem like that would do for You
Three simple words alone, "I love You"
But I know that's all You really ever wanted
A life that's lived for You
To say I love You

(only my life will do)

"Eyes To See You" actually came about as I was going through the order of the worship for that coming night, and the songs at the end just led into a prayer that God would help us to see Him everywhere we go. As I was thinking the prayer, talking with God.. I began to sing the song. It is a great, simple worship chorus that is great to close a worship time with. Download the Chord Chart PDF here.

Eyes To See You (© 2002)
Give us eyes to see You
And all You do
Give us ears to hear You
Your quiet voice, breaking through

We're together
As Your children
Spirit fill us with more of You

Help our hearts to know You
And follow You

I had been thinking recently... I want to write a worship song that is just simple, true, real... but I don't usually do that :-) Most of that, yes... but I was thinking something a little different. A couple days later, I sat down with my son for a little late night jam session, and Trust You is what came out. A simple message that I think about all the time... trusting God with everything, even when it doesn't make any sense... just because I believe - I trust - that He knows better. Simple song - awesome message.

Trust You (© 2001)
Oh Lord, I want to give you my life
Oh Lord, I mean everything
But I don't know how to tame this wild heart
And I don't know what the givin' means

chorus
But till then I'm gonna trust You
Give You the benefit of the doubt
That what You say is what's really best for me
Even when I don't know what that means

Oh Lord, I want to trust You
With every little detail of my life
How can I give You more?
Please show me what the givin' means

Fly actually was written over a long period of time... maybe even more than a year. Usually I write songs in one sitting, but not this one. Played the haunting Em2 chord loop and melody several times, then only had the words Fly... then finally one day had the song. A friend of mine has been dealing with his wife leaving him, losing his job, and all kinds of really hard stuff... none of which is his fault. He's even closer to God than ever before - doing more for Him than ever before... sometimes life just doesn't work the way it should. Sometimes we just want to fly away... leave it all behind. Fly.

Fly (© 2001)
Fly... I want to fly away
Like a bird, high in the sky
Fly... I want to fly away
And leave my troubled life behind

Cause it seems so hard down here
Like I never could survive
But it seems like way up there
My troubles might just disappear
(repeat V1- to C2)
Cause things seems so big down here
When we're lookin' face to face
And it seems like way up there
Things might just become so small
That I might... stand a chance... for a while... so I... fly...

Far... I need to get so far away
From this life that used to be
Mine... But now I barely can see
Anything left of me

And it seems so hard down here
Like I never could survive
But it seems like way up there
My troubles might just disappear

Next to you... my Rock... so I ask... can I fly?

Ordinary Man was written just two days ago as I was putting together the worship service for Sunday 7/1/01 (which just happens to be our last official Sunday at Willowbrook!). The theme of the summer is going to be God does extraordinary things with ordinary people. We tend to think of people like Noah, Abraham, Moses, and others as super men ... not really in the same category as us. But God reminds us often in Scripture, by showing us the rest of their lives, that they were just like you and me... Ordinary Men.

Ordinary Man (© 2001)
Noah was an extraordinary man
He did some things I might not do
Jumped in a boat on dry land
Sayin, "Lord, I do believe in You"

Not one single drop of rain had ever
Fallen from the sky
And 120 years sure is a
Long time to be 'standin' by'

chorus 1
How could I ever match up
To such great men of faith?
I am just an ordinary man
But Lord I do believe in You!

chorus 2
You are my strength, oh Lord
I come to You, I come
My eyes and ears may fool me into
Thinkin that You could never come through
But my heart believes in You --- yeah

Then there was Abraham, who gave his
One and only son
Well I am a Daddy too
And let me tell you that's a real tough one

Well - we all know the story of David
And that real tall guy too
He took an impossible situation
And said, "I do believe in You!"
"Lord, I do believe in You!

How could I ever match up
To such great men of faith?
I am just an ordinary man
But Lord I do believe in You!
Lord I do believe in You - yeah
Lord, I do believe in You!

You are my strength, oh Lord
I come to You, I come
My eyes and ears may fool me into
Thinkin that You could never come through
But my heart believes in You
You are my strength, oh Lord
I come to You, I come
My eyes and ears may fool me into
Thinkin that You could never come through
But my heart believes in You --- yeah

How could I ever match up
To such great men of faith?
I am just an ordinary man
But Lord I do believe in You!
Lord I do believe in You - yeah
Lord, I do believe in You!

end
I do believe in You, Like Noah
And Abraham
I do believe
(ad lib to end)

Untwisting is a fairly new song (written within the last month or so) and has a really cool message. There are so many times that even among we who are trying to live like Jesus, we can misinterpret things, and misunderstand... and well, just plain be wrong! So... in a twisted world, we get to "untwist". This audio version is kinda funny because you'll hear Ian (our two-year old son) rustling with some papers in the background... and Jen did not sing on this one. I still don't know what Ian was playing with... :-) But, it gives the recording some character! Enjoy!

Untwisting (© 2000)
This twisted world is full of lies
And everyone is lookin' out for "Me"
We've closed our ears, we've closed our eyes
And everyone sees Truth so differently
Oooohh - Truth has become so twisted

A piece of truth, a piece of lie
A combination that is frieght'ning
And left alone, unverified
The knots continue with their tight'ning
Oooohh - We have become so twisted

CHORUS
We've got to do some untwisting
Forgetting the lies that have fooled us
Untie the knots of unkind words
Spoken from misunderstanding
And everything will just work out OK
Cause we have done some un... twisting

Our struggle's not with flesh and blood
Though our hearts can make us feel that way
Our Enemy is never done
Twisting everything... dividing
Oooohh - We have become so twisted

Bridge
Oh what a day that will be
When everything will be so clear and free
From all the twisting - no more dividing
But until then we... untwist!
